Carapax Centre

The Carapax centre is a European Association which safeguards all types of tortoises.  The centre is Tuscany is situated at Massa Marittima.

Apart from hosting thousands of tortoises, the centre in Tuscany also welcomes a large number of storks.  The centre proposes to house tortoises which can’t go back into their natural habitat or to save those which are in danger of dying because they are injured.

The track  to follow is an easy one which runs alongside the various areas where the tortoises live freely.  In the Mediterranean area we can find normal land tortoises where as on the exotic side it’s possible to admire the enormous Sahel tortoise, the Amazonian tortoise with its red legs and also the tortoise with tusks.
